My Real Education

As I look back at my four years at UCLA, I am realizing more and more that my participation in Christian Students was really my salvation. Growing up a believer, I have always loved the Lord to some extent, read His Word, and desired to have an advancing Christian walk, but these positive aspirations more often than not fell prey to my ambitious nature. My desire for success and accomplishment drove me to achieve even at the cost of caring for people.

Christian Students taught me what no course in mathematics, engineering, biology, history, or English ever could have taught me. It brought me out of my narrow sphere of self and what concerned me to be involved with people. From the older believers (couples, graduate students, and working individuals), I learned many life lessons, and took them as my patterns of how to live a normal healthy Christian life. To the younger believers, I endeavored to care for them and guide them humanly and lead them to enjoy the wonderful Christ.

Christian Students fosters awareness of and care for mankind that leads to an awareness of the human condition. And as a student seeing the human condition while simultaneously digging into the riches of God’s Word and realizing that God’s central work is in the hearts of men, I could not but help desiring to offer those around me the only One that can strengthen, supply, and cheer mankind, and that is God Himself.
