Finding God

In the summer before my senior year at UCLA, I had the realization that, as a Christian, my relationship with the Lord was quite weak. I had been a Christian for a number of years and a member of Christian Students since I was a freshman, but it was rare for me to participate in any Christian gathering. As the year began, I promised the Lord and myself that I would begin to meet with other Christians in an attempt to strengthen my bond with Him.

Since I already knew some of the other Christian Students’ members, it was easy for me to join their meetings on Friday nights. The whole club never met together but broke up in different apartments and homes throughout Westwood. At the homes I met in, there was usually only ten of us. There was nothing spectacular about the meetings, and every week it was a struggle for me to go. But the Lord would never let me forget my promise to Him, and once I made it to the meeting, the Lord always felt so near. We sang songs to love the Lord, we considered some sweet portions from the Bible, and some shared their experiences of the Lord over the past week. I would walk home every Friday night with the full confidence that I had just been with the God.

My relationship with the Lord did not change overnight. It was not just one Friday night that built up my relationship with the Lord. Rather, it was a cumulative result of being with the other students and families in Christian Students. Their love and appreciation for the Lord simply overflowed into my heart.
